warpaint in oils by derekjones warpaint in oils by derekjones
often think I need to use oils for my figure stuff - mainly because it is softer in brushmark but also because it is so much easier to mix flesh colours with them...
so I dug my oils out of the shed and have tried this sketch this morning...
if anyone has thoughts about the relative values of my oils, pastels and acrylics I would be OK to hear them...
here or by email!

Very, very nice, but I would have liked to see it larger than it is.

Gosh, I haven't been painting so much lately, and I am about to do Christmas gifts that are paintings.

You make me want to go whip out the paint right now, though!

I've been having a little fun with oils as well and have found a few gems out there... one of the very versatile colors I've found is Old Holland's Deep Ocher... kind of a dark brown that isn't quite so red as most..

It works very well for those darker shadows under the chin... you can take it to a cooler tone with a little bit of Ultramarine and T-White or you can warm it up with some cadniums or it is nice to use to darken the value of a naples yellow.

I'm not sure that will help your picture cause it looks wonderful as it is..

half you message has not arrived - but I will look at that colour - I like their acrylics and have some of their oils , tomorrow if I am strong enough I will do an oil directs from the model!

Very good. I like the composition and the color palette you chose. The subjective red brushstrokes really contrast the blue background.Kudos.:iconclapplz:
